How is your flock going Sav?
I'm guessing you finished the fence reconstruction

G'day Mark.

The flock are going great, lost one to ???? that ended up a meal for the foxes, bugger.

Just spent a fair whack on fencing, nearly all my boundary has been replaced, with a little more work (2 gates) I'll have a second paddock and with a little more work I'll have a third paddock.

Now I'll be able to rotate them through the paddocks and leave them unattended, we have a smaller one that we put them in when we're there, and gee, didn't they do a lovely job of "trimming" some young trees that we really loved.

Still scouting for a ram, have a really good prospect, just have to get my head around the epic journey to pick him up.

Also need to do some work converting a cattle holding yard/run to suit the girls, should be fun.

I'd like to know how immsy's flock are traveling, I'm guessing they've probably lambed by now.

When you achieve this I want to see photos!  We are also using old cattle yards & run for the goats.  We used aluminium siding down the run to make it narrower but the agile goats can still manage a 360 turn. Basically we man handle them through the run & into the cattle crush where OH backs up to the end of the crush holding said goaties by the horns while I do the husbandry.  Bloody hard work. We cant justify the expense of buying new goat yards & run, especially while our herd is small. (mostly up to 50) but our backs tell us differently.
Crazy city goat woman; at least that's what the rural sheepie & cattle neighbours think!

I got my new crush delivered yesterday and wow, what a difference it has made!  I used to get a sore back after trimming the feet of only one goatie; today I did 11 goaties' feet and not even a twinge was felt.  I also vaccinated three of them which is now easy to do on my own, whereas before I had to have OH help hold them, which was a nuisance.

Sounds like you are at the same point we are - I thought we would meet our first couple on the weekend but we are still waiting. Not much longer....surely! One decent change in the weather and we will have babies everywhere...

I didn't join ours this year as I'm working in the Territory for a while. Good thing too....they are so fat. We would have problems lambing for sure. When we left they were sitting on a nice fat score 2-3 now the are off the scale. Bride's parents have been looking after them all. I saw photos of them yesterday, they are in for a hell of a change in life style!

The problem we have found Mark is when they are given some "time off" they do tend to run to fat and then they are very hard to get in lamb in future even when slimmed down as they do not cycle so regularly anymore. Hopefully yours will be less problematic than some of ours have been over the years.

so what do you mean by "time off"?  is that not being chased around the paddock by a ram on heat
all our does seemed to have gone off heat but the minute we put a buck in with them he went berserk.  had to evict him again as he was chasing the really young (ie year old) does... talk about cradle snatching
